Meeting Rachel who manages Sale, Salvation Army and The Light was heartwarming. Working hard in the local community Rachel has numerous community activities to tackle loneliness in Sale and we are here to spread the word.
Thursdays are a big day at the Salvation Army, Sale. The day starts with a coffee morning at 10:30am, where much fun and laughter is had over a brew and a biscuit for the price of 50p. Those that attend are invited to listen to the choir practice if they choose at 11am, for those that wish to stay to enjoy more company and conversation are welcome to do so whilst they have more brews.
After the morning activities, at 12 noon The Young In Heart Club begins. The club offer a hearty meal followed by entertainment. The group who meet are always greeted with a friendly smile and support from each other from the minute they walk through the doors. Anybody new is taken care of with kindness and will feel at home thanks to the supportive nature of the group. The meal costs £3.50 plus 50p for tea or coffee. The entertainment which follows lunch for approximately 45 minutes is £1. The entertainment varies from week to week and can consist of a singer, speaker or quiz.
All of these activities are at your own choosing, for you to enjoy at your own leisure, it may be that you just want to attend the coffee morning or just the lunch, the beauty is that you decide. All the Salvation Army ask, is that if you wish to attend the lunch you contact them on 0161-976-4380 the week before to confirm catering numbers.
All of these wonderful activities are a sample of just one day in the week, there are many other opportunities to enjoy, such as exercise classes, art groups and the Growing Together Garden. We encourage you to call or pop in to the Salvation Army to see the full list of activities on offer.
We personally found that the church was welcoming and a great place to make new friends.
