Cared for locally, by people you can talk to
Direct cremation is now advertised widely by national providers. Some families are happy with that. Others want to know exactly where their loved one is, and to be able to pick up the phone and speak to the people looking after them.
With us, your loved one stays at our funeral home at 29 Green Lane, Ashton upon Mersey, M33 5PN – in the community, close to home. You’ll deal with Steph Douglas and our small, dedicated team from the very first phone call. We’re independent, fully regulated by SAIF, and rated 5.0 from over 100 Google reviews.
Individual care. Quiet dignity. No compromise.
Our direct cremation service is deliberately personal. We care for each person individually, giving them their own dedicated journey rather than treating arrangements as part of a high-volume process. It is a simple difference, but an important one: one person, one journey, cared for with dignity and respect.
Questions to ask any direct cremation provider:
- Is bringing your loved one into care included, at any time of day or night?
- Where will they be cared for before the cremation – and how far away is it?
- Which crematorium will be used?
- Are the coffin, transport, paperwork and crematorium fees all included?
- Can anything add extra charges?
- How, and when, will the ashes be returned?
- Who will you actually speak to if you have a question?
Things to consider when choosing a direct cremation:
- Mourners cannot attend the crematorium – your loved one will be cared for by our team on the day.
- Farewells are said before your loved one comes into our care, as we are unable to offer chapel of rest visits with this service.
- The date and time of the cremation will be chosen by Herbert Murray Funeral Directors.
Direct Cremation FAQs
What is a direct cremation?
A direct cremation is a cremation without a funeral service beforehand. Nobody attends the cremation itself, and many families choose to hold their own memorial or gathering later, in their own way.
Is £1,550 the full price?
Yes. Our £1,550 direct cremation includes third-party fees such as the crematorium fee. We’ll confirm everything in writing before you make any arrangements.
Where will my loved one be cared for?
At our own funeral home, 29 Green Lane, Ashton upon Mersey, Sale, M33 5PN. They stay with us, in the care of our team, until the day of the cremation.
How do we get the ashes back?
We’ll discuss the collection of your loved one’s ashes with you when you make the arrangements, so it’s done in the way that’s right for your family.
Which crematorium do you use?
We use both Manchester Crematorium on Barlow Moor Road and Altrincham Crematorium in Dunham Massey, so your loved one is cremated locally.
Can we attend a direct cremation?
No – a direct cremation is unattended. If you’d like family and friends to be at the crematorium, our simple funeral service (£3,390) may suit you better.
Do we need a pre-paid funeral plan?
No. You can arrange a direct cremation with us at the time it’s needed. We don’t sell pre-paid funeral plans, but you can record your wishes free with our My Wishes form.
